NEW SINGLE! OUT NOW!
Why did this Aussie write a song celebrating the Canadian Prime Minister?
Australian musician Maia KK got a big surprise one random day when a new song suddenly dropped into her head … about the Prime Minister of a country on the other side of the world. “I never imagined in a million years that I would write a song about a politician!” she exclaimed, “however, I am utterly delighted the song turned up. It taps into the sentiments of so many globally, who, like me, celebrate Mr. Trudeau – both as a balanced, compassionate human being and as a leader who is reaching beyond the status quo. It’s so refreshing to feel excited and hopeful and uplifted by a politician!”
Aside from the obvious sing along appeal of this toe-tapping a cappella song anywhere that Mr. Trudeau’s supporters gather, Maia wishes for the song to be a breath of fresh air for people everywhere who are so jaded by the predominant focus on all the things that are going wrong. “I’m one of a zillion people who are sick of all the doom and gloom about politics and world leaders.”
Mr. Trudeau came onto her radar when he first took office, and increasingly so as news reports and social media posts were all abuzz with his progressive approach to governing. She quickly realised that he was a whole new breed of politician – the kind that she believes this planet desperately requires. She believes the status quo of political systems and how the majority of politicians function within those systems is failing us and new paradigms are paramount to our collective thriving.
“It blows me away when a politician says, ‘Business as usual doesn’t work, that we’re in a time where we have to rethink a lot of the basic ground rules and assumptions of our civilizations’ and ‘We know that peace is possible, and that hope beats fear every single time. We will meet fear and hatred with love and compassion, always.’ When I hear this it’s like, WOW! … a politician who really gets it! Add to these his approach to equality, diversity and unity, as well as opening Canada’s doors to asylum seekers and refugees and I so wish he could be the Prime Minister of Australia so I don’t have to despair over my own country’s backward thinking and devastatingly cringe worthy policies. To Canadians I say, I would never want to trade places with you for your weather, but in a heartbeat I would do so for your P.M. So many of us, within and beyond Canadian borders, hope that the likes of Mr. Trudeau are inspiring a new generation of politicians to do things differently.
“I may be on the other side of the planet, but so many of us take an intense interest in world events; in what other countries are doing. We’re all in this together on our global home and we all have an influence or impact on each other. I don’t care whether they’re left or right or up or down or sideways, I’m happy to praise any politician who I truly believe is helping us collectively thrive. The main party I’m interested in is the one where we all gather together to celebrate a paradigm shift in politics, and the likes of Mr. Trudeau are leading the way to that.”
